Maintaining Fitness Goals While on Break

We’ve all been there: you’re relaxing on vacation, having a great time, but then worry creeps in. You haven’t been exercising as much as you do at home, and you’re afraid you may be losing some of the strength you’ve been working so hard for! Don’t fret, there are plenty of easy ways you can keep up your strength while still enjoying you break.
Light cardio. If you’re feeling up to it, try taking a brisk walk. Opt for sightseeing on foot instead of a tour bus. You could also go on early morning walks along the beach to get your day going. Keeping your heart rate in the 120 range is an ideal workout to maintain strength while you’re away from your normal workout routine.
Resistance training. You don’t even have to leave your hotel room to incorporate some simple bodyweight exercises into your day. You can do a few pushups, squats, and crunches all before you head out to breakfast. If you want to devote a little more time to fitness while you’re on vacation, you can try swimming or kayaking at a nearby water source. This way, you get a great workout while really appreciating your surroundings.
Eat right. While you don’t want to limit yourself too much when on vacation, try to be conscious about your food choices. Indulge in speciality dishes and things that are truly worth the extra calories, but skip the gas station junk food snacks and opt for fruit and nuts.
Stay positive. Don’t judge yourself for taking some much needed time away from your normal routine. It’s important to give yourself a break to recharge. The gym will still be there when you get home, so in the mean time, do what makes you happy and take it easy!
