Join Airrosti’s Jenay Zelaya, DC as she discusses the common causes of various types of foot pain. Zelaya explains how muscle imbalances in the feet can also cause pain up the kinetic chain. She also discusses traditional treatment method options and goes over how Airrosti’s hands-on approach can treat most common foot injuries in as few as three visits (based on patient-reported outcomes).
Feet are flexible structures made of bones, joints, muscles, and soft tissues that allow us to perform most daily activities. From walking and standing upright to playing sports and doing gymnastics, your feet go through a lot to keep you mobile.
Your feet are made of many complex parts and act as shock absorbers for the rest of the body during movement. As a result, your feet become easily susceptible to painful injuries when they are not given proper care.
You’re more likely to experience foot pain if you:
Foot pain could be caused by a recent acute injury, such as a fall. It can also be the result of a chronic condition that has slowly gotten worse. Most foot problems are sustained from mechanical issues such as overuse, improper footwear, or arch issues such as flat feet.
Some common causes of foot pain are:
Foot pain tends to be localized in the ball of the foot, arch, top of the foot, or in the toe joints. However, an injury to the foot can also cause pain in the ankle, knee, hip, and the low back. Foot and ankle pain are often described as either sharp, dull, tingling, or burning. Some injuries that cause foot pain and inflammation can also develop other symptoms such as weakness, bruising, swelling, and tenderness.
Your doctor may ask you about your medical history and if you’ve had a previous foot injury. They may also request an x-ray or MRI to help rule out what conditions may be causing the pain.
Depending on the cause, treatments can vary. Foot pain treatment may include conservative care, such as using shoe inserts to provide arch support or prescribing nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications for pain relief. Your doctor may also recommend wearing a boot or brace to keep your foot stable during your recovery.
Treatment options for more chronic or severe foot pain can become less conservative and take longer to recover. In some cases, your doctor may suggest an injection or surgery. These procedures can be costly, and recovery may require physical therapy.
Proper foot care can help prevent many common causes of general foot pain. If you notice your feet are aching more than usual, check your footwear first. Make sure you’re wearing shoes that fit well and provide proper arch support.
If you spend a lot of time walking or running, you may experience lingering foot soreness. Try soaking your feet in warm water or getting a foot massage to help relax and loosen up the muscles.

I want to thank Dr. Terra Schanzenbacher, in March of this year I had very bad pain in my right heal. I had gone to a Podiatrist, but shots were all my options besides surgery. I was not up for that I would have to be out for at least 8 weeks. They recommended Airrosti, which I had already heard of them since my son played sports and we had already taken him and it worked. My husband had also had a shoulder injury and he also went to Airrosti which he is great now also, so I made my appointments and I have had a great outcome. I am able to do whatever I want, Walk, Run, everyday life things. I owe it all to Dr. Terra. If you have second doubts about this treatment please change your mind and try it out. I have recommended my Boss and a C...+ show moreoworker for two different injury's and they thanked me for doing this. Thank Goodness for AIRROSTI 2017

I had horrible foot pain and we had a scheduled climb with my entire family within the month. Dr. Myles helped me with the pain so that I could prepare and climb the Grand Tetons with my family. We made it to the top and I carried my therapy ball with me!

I went to see Dr. Miller for what appeared to be a problem with my left foot and she was able to determine that it was a much larger issue, leading all the way up to not having strength in my hip as well as tightness in my calf muscles. I went to see Dr. Miller because I started to enjoy running and I was having trouble going past four to five miles without extreme foot pain. With the treatments and following the exercises Dr. Miller prescribed, I was able to finish my first Marathon this October. I was able to not only complete the marathon but I was able to train injury free and really enjoy the process.

Dr. Latiolais is a life saver. I have suffered foot pain for about 5 years now. To the point I had difficulty walking and it was affecting my daily life. I never knew when I would be able to walk without pain and was unable to plan any form of activity that required a lot of walking. After 2 injections in my back still no relief. After 1 visit to Dr. Latiolais I was able to walk again with NO PAIN. I haven't been able to do this for 5 years. I recommend Dr Latiolais to EVERYONE suffering any kind of pain. I truly thought I would never find relief or answers to my ...+ show morepain. I wished I would have seen her before I had any other procedure or consultation. It would have saved me a lot of time and frustration, She is my HERO!!!!!

Dr. Ahlfinger helped me a lot - THANK YOU! I developed excruciating arch pain in both feet while training for a rucking event. I think this was brought on by increasing my distance and ruck weight too fast. I'd never had an issue with arch pain before, and it hurt with every step. Dr. Ahlfinger thought it was related to the posterior tibial tendon which then also lead to some plantar pain. The treatment itself was more painful than I'd anticipated and involved fascia work on my arch and along my shin, but it really made a difference. She worked on the right foot/leg the first day, and that night I could tell a significant improvement on the right side compared to the left side. I received a total of three treatments which enabled me to g...+ show moreet back to my training with paces that matched or exceeded my per mile pace prior to the onset of the arch pain. Since my Airrosti treatment, I have still had some minor tightness in my arches and calves from time to time, but nothing that has interfered with my training, and it continues to show steady improvement. I continue to do my at-home therapy of foam rolling, stretching, and ankle mobility to hopefully avoid ever going through that again!! Thanks, Dr. Kayla!

I went to Airrosti with a bad foot and also a shoulder issue. Hearing I was seeing a chiropractor for my issues gave me a little concern. I don’t believe in manipulations at all. Boy was I wrong about what they can do! Dr. Caussey was very open about the treatment and I had a hard time to believe that the pain I was suffering with could be alleviated in as little as 3 visits! After the massage with Dr. Causseys “magic thumbs”, I met with the exercise therapist, Betty Gutierrez, to go over some exercises to do at home. The night of the first visit I did have some discomfort, which I was told might happen, but nothing that I couldn’t handle and I did my at home therapy faithfully. My shoulder pain which I suffered with for months w...+ show moreas gone after one treatment! I did have about 5-6 treatments for my foot but I will tell you that this is the first time I have walked without any pain at all. I absolutely loved the care and treatment I received. I was so comfortable talking and laughing while getting the care I needed. I highly recommend that if you have any pain issues that you set up an appointment with Airrosti for the care you deserve I will definitely use them again if I have any other pain issues that need resolving.

I was diagnosed with MS in 1995 and have been living with ongoing pain ever since. Even after an ankle surgical procedure in 2010, a sudden pain under my foot began in 2015 and had progressed over time. Recently my husband has been receiving treatment at your facility with a successful outcome, which prompted me to schedule an appointment for myself. With the assistance of Dr. Luna in just a weeks time, my pain level decreased from and 8 to a level 3. Within the second treatment my pain level is now less than 1, and no pain by the 3rd session; with still no pain to this day. I am truly amazed how quickly my pain was alleviated and am completely grateful on how warm, prompt, and inviting the staff and environment is.

So, you know that song "Never Gonna Dance Again" by George Michael?? Yeah, that's how I felt! Ha! A dance injury (bone bruise) had put me out of commission for about a year! I was having to tape my foot and go crazy on the tiger balm just to make it through a performance. The injury soon spread to my other side and this is when I went in to see Dr. Rios at Airrosti. She. Was. Brutal. (in a totally good way!!) I had been doctors and therapist for sports injury, but Dr. Rios just jumped right in after seeing what the problem was. The super deep tissue and trigger point treatment helped loosen up my leg...for the first time in months I had some mobility back!!! Dr. Rios showed me some great massage practices and strength training I could do...+ show more on my own. I was able to compete in the Camp Gladiator Games this year and I owe most of that do Dr. Rios!!! The pain is only for a moment...SHE ROCKS!!! Laurie is a very knowledgeable Airrosti provider. She is very educated in the human body and how it performs. She tries to find the "root" of the problem to try and treat the injury. She does everything that she can to preserve your current fitness program while rehabilitating your injury. I have come to her with 3 injuries in a span of 10 years and she always helps me so much. I always feel very confident referring her too injured friends or people that I coach, as well. They always give me good feedback regarding her care. I highly recommend trying Laurie for your injury treatment.

I recently attended one of the CrossFit regionals as a volunteer and was lucky enough to receive treatment from Dr Hillary Owen whilst there. I was recently diagnosed with osteoarthritis in both knees and have been struggling with mobility, this was aggravated by the hours spent on my feet volunteering at the regionals. Dr Owen treated me for a good length of time, identifying the issues that are causing my difficulties, pain and aggravating the OA. She spent time educating me on how I can help myself and how I can mobilize myself daily so thy I can live my life with OA - the OA is not going away but there is much I can do to reduce the pain levels. Only a week on from my treatment with Dr Owen and already I can identify significant prog...+ show moreression and I am certainly less wobbly on my feet and in less pain. I highly recommend Dr Owen and I am very grateful to her for the time she took to help and educate me! If you are in the vicinity of Dr Owen's office and you have any pain issues then you should make an appointment!
