In this video, Airrosti’s Casey Miller, DC explains the symptoms and causes of low back pain. Learn how Airrosti’s soft tissue treatment pinpoints and treats the injury directly at the source to provide rapid relief in an average of just three visits, based on patient-reported outcomes.
The lumbar spine, or low back, is a complex structure of interconnecting bones, joints, nerves, ligaments, and muscles that supports the weight of the upper body and provides mobility for everyday motions. As well-engineered as this complex system is, the lower back is also highly susceptible to injury.
Acute Injury
The single most common cause of lower back pain is a torn or pulled muscle and/or ligament. A low back sprain or strain can happen suddenly, or can develop slowly over time from repetitive movements. Strains occur when a muscle is stretched too far and tears, damaging the muscle itself.
Common causes of sprains and strains include:
While sprains and strains do not sound serious and don’t typically cause long term issues, they can be quite painful and severely interfere with daily activities, sleep, and exercise.
Chronic Injury
Pain is considered chronic once it lasts for more than three months and exceeds the body’s natural healing process. This is often the result of a disc problem (herniated disc), a joint problem, unresolved injury from past trauma, and/or irritated spinal nerve roots.
Injury to the lower back can present with a wide variety of symptoms. Pain can be mild and merely annoying or it can be severe and debilitating. It may start suddenly, or it could start slowly—possibly coming and going—and gradually get worse over time.
Depending on the underlying cause of the pain, symptoms can be experienced in a variety of ways.
Depending on the type and severity of the pain, traditional treatment options for low back pain typically include rest and activity modification, over-the-counter or prescription pharmaceuticals, back braces, steroid injections, or even surgery. The goal of medical treatments is to reduce pain, but these treatments do not change the underlying source of pain.
To treat and effectively resolve lower back pain, a thorough diagnosis is essential. Proper lower back pain treatment reduces the likelihood of recurrent back pain flare-ups and helps prevent the development of chronic lower back pain.

This is one of the most common conditions we treat at Airrosti. Our approach leads to complete and rapid injury resolution in 89% of cases, helping eliminate the need for expensive imaging tests, long-term pain management programs, invasive procedures and pharmaceuticals.

I went in with a lot of lower back pain (non trauma related). I thought bones would’ve cracked but they weren’t. They focused more on the muscle and to my surprise it was exactly what I needed. After years of back pain, it only took 2 sessions to feel better!!

I have been having lower backpain since 2007. The pain was on an off but this year in September it got very bad. I had to go to ER for the excruciating pain. I didn't get much help except for painkillers which didn't help me so I decided to visit a Chiropractor. I search on Google for Chiropractors near me and thankfully I found Airrosti in Sienna, Missouri City. Dr Timothy Matthys attended to me and just after couple of questions told me that the pain was due to hip misalignment. After I left the office after 1st treatment, I was already feeling 65% better and the following weeks it got more better. Dr Matthys has magic hands. He cured my lower backpain problem for good. He is one of the most wonderful person I have met. I thank God for...+ show more Dr Matthys and his treatment. If you have any pain, without second thought, visit Airrosti Chiropractors. They are very professional and if possible ask for Dr Timothy Matthys the magic man!!! Thank you Dr Timothy Matthys for taking the pain out of my body and making me a happy man.

After a few appointments and exercises to work on I'm FINALLY pain free!!! The only thing I regret is that I didn't find Airrosti SOONER!! Thank y'all so very much for helping me get so far in such short time! Y'all are AMAZING! Thank You 🙂

Low back pain and down legs off and on for a year or more. Saw a gentlemen with an Airrosti shirt on at lunch and chatted with him briefly. Heard about Airrosti a few years ago, but never followed up. Thought I'd give it a try now and so glad I did! In a few short visits and commitment to home stretches, my pain has gone away and I have been able to do physical activity I haven't been doing due to the ache. Very pleased for a first timer. Hope I don't come back but if I do have something going on... I know where to come.

I have been an athlete all my life. Currently I am a competitive cyclist. The rigors of extended time spent in the saddle began to cause me severe lower back pain. I was referred to Kristina by a trusted acquaintance and fellow cyclist. Kristina quickly identified my contraindications and prescribed several exercises to remedy my situation. It has been around 6 months now and my lower back condition has since improved to the point I no longer have debilitating pain in training and competition. Many thanks Kristina and Airrosti!

Dr. Tong worked wonders for my lower back and sciatica issues within 3 sessions. And I realized an 80% improvement just after the first session. Her explanations of the condition and how to minimize pain were very helpful as well.

I had been suffering from low back pain that traveled down to my toes for about 3-4 months. I tried medication, massage therapy, and acupuncture. I would get relief from these but it never resolved the issue. After just 3 visits and home physical therapy, my pain is gone. I am a big believer in Airrosti and Dr. Tong!

I have had nagging lower back pain for years. Heating pads...ibuprofen....streching....nothing worked. I was getting used to the idea that I will have back pain for the rest of.my.life. After 1 visit with Dr. Moore I was amazed that the pain was gone...completely. I was told to follow up with rehab at home.....didn't need to. What she did for my back pain was nothing short of a miracle. Go see the Dr. No Moore pain 😀

I came in with severe lower back pain that was effecting my day to day activities. I immediately felt comfortable with Dr. Adewoye, she truly listened, was extremely friendly and easy to communicate with. I had three sessions over the course of a week and I am nearly back to 100%. I was also taught methods to recover in the event of a future re-injury that true do work and provide relief. Very thankful for Dr. Brittany Adewoye!

I went to Dr. Celvenger with lower back pain that did not resolve with traditional PT services. She had me pain-free in 3 visits (plus homework). She was always responsive to a quick text through the app and I am very pleased with the results.

Saw Dr. Owens for chronic lower back pain. After a few sessions of hip flexor and psoas release along with at home stretches, pain is virtually gone. Excellent care by her and the entire team at the Rockwall clinic.

I had lower back pain and sometimes it would go down to my upper thigh. I would be in pain if I walk more than 30 minutes to an hour. After having the first treatment with Dr. Moore—— I had no Moore pain! After listening to my story, she was able to diagnosed where my pain was coming from! She is also a hilarious person- which is a bonus! I would recommend her to anyone!

I have had lower back pain on and off for years and recently more than usual hip pain. Dr. Gibson was able to identify the painful location and the problems causing the pain. Her deep tissue massage combined with physical therapy that I can do at home has been a tremendous relief. I highly recommend this type of treatment and this particular DC.
