Join Airrosti’s Brittany Bankson, DC, as she goes over the common causes of shoulder pain. She’ll dig into the signs and symptoms associated with different shoulder injuries. She also describes how Airrosti addresses shoulder pain using targeted manual therapy and active rehab exercises.
The shoulder works with surrounding muscles and tendons to allow for a broad range of motion in the arm. Because of the shoulder’s design, our arms can rotate, push, pull, and lift objects overhead with relative ease. Because we rely on the shoulder for daily movements, wear and tear in the shoulder can often lead to painful shoulder injuries. The most common injury that people are concerned about are tears in the rotator cuff.
Typical causes of shoulder pain are overuse and trauma. These occur frequently during activities like weightlifting, football, or gymnastics. Common conditions include bursitis, rotator cuff tendonitis/tears, and shoulder impingement.
Most causes of shoulder pain fall into these two categories:
Symptoms vary depending on the type of shoulder injury. Shoulder injuries will restrict your mobility and likely cause pain when lifting weights or applying pressure. Typically, an injury to the shoulder will be painful and easily aggravated by movement.
Depending on your condition, you may experience any of the following symptoms:
Proper treatment for shoulder problems depends on the precise cause of pain. Your doctor may order tests such as X-Rays and MRIs to diagnose potential causes of pain and help determine the best treatment for your injury. Most times, your doctor may recommend a combination of rest, ice or heat, and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or injections for help relieving pain.
While many shoulder conditions can resolve themselves in time with conservative care, some cases can persist for months or even years and restrict your mobility.
Airrosti providers aim to diagnose and treat pain at the source with hands-on manual therapy, combined with targeted active rehab exercises to restore shoulder strength and function. We also give you the tools and resources to address pain as it appears, leaving you to focus on doing the things you love most.

I've seen Dr. Broussard for 3 visits and my results have been life-changing. I put off going for a really long time because in my mind I didn't feel like I had a true injury and things would get better. I've had awful tension in my upper back (trapezoids) for months but it started giving my problems with my right shoulder and pain in my cervical spine along with lots of terrible headaches. After just one visit, the pain in my spine was gone, the tension in my trapezoids was so much better and no more headaches. After 3 visits, the results are incredible. Not only do I feel like a new person, but I wish I would have taken a picture of my posture before and after. My head, neck and shoulder posture is so much better. Dr. Broussard is AMAZI...+ show moreNG! Thanks for taking such great care of me and making me feel healthy and strong again.

I saw Dr. Ritola for shoulder pain. My first visit he evaluated the pain area and went to work on what he felt was causing the issue. He was very thorough and explained where the pain was coming from and how he was going to help alleviate it. I asked a lot of questions and he gave analogies that made complete sense to me. After seeing him, I saw Pete for exercises to do at home. Pete was also very thorough and had me do the exercises to make sure I was doing them correctly. I am not completely pain free after being discharged, but I feel Dr. Ritola and Pete worked together to show me what I need to do. Dr. Ritola assured me that doing the exercises on my own will help strengthen the muscles around the area causing my pain. Now the work i...+ show mores up to me! I highly recommend Dr. Ritola and Pete if you are having pain. I know he will do all he can to make you feel better.

I was having right shoulder pain for 4 + weeks, I am right handed so I couldn't really stop to rest it as much as I would have liked. I was unsure if it was my rotator cuff or something else, I made an appointment with the Orthopedic doctor in Forney for Friday September 2nd just in case I needed it, I went back and forth on what to do but I remembered how much he helped me a couple of years ago with my upper shoulders and decided to pay out of pocket and go see him and I'm so glad I did. He works magic with his hands pushing in the most sensitive areas that really need the attention until he feels the release. After my first appointment and some physical therapy my range of motion and my pain level was greatly improved. I have 3 more vi...+ show moresits scheduled and I feel very hopeful I will be back to lifting very soon and in no pain! Thank you !!

Tom did a nice job of diagnosing my right shoulder problem (I landed on the shoulder during a bike crash). He guided me through a series of exercises, carefully ordering them and selecting associated intensity levels that helped the shoulder recover and then strengthen. Doing the process remotely worked well and I would do it again, although I hope I don't have to!
