The 2015 NBA All-Star Game is set for Sunday, February 15. Starting at 8 PM ET, the best players from East and West Conferences will face off. The East Conference team, however, will be missing a player, Dwyane Wade.
The Miami Heat’s Dwyane Wade will sit out this year’s NBA All-Star game due to a left hamstring strain he suffered earlier in the year. Wade has missed Miami’s last seven games and has decided to sit out the All-Star Game opting to make his return during a Heat game.
This isn’t the first time a hamstring has put Wade on the bench. He missed seven games in November with the same injury. He also missed nine games last season with a strained right hamstring.
While it’s unclear what exactly has caused Wade’s injuries, improper pre-game warm-ups or muscle imbalances in his legs may be to blame.
Traditional Hamstring Strain Treatment
Traditionally, hamstring strains are treated using the RICE method. RICE stands for rest, ice, compress and elevate.
This method requires you to keep weight off of your leg to allow the muscle to heal. This makes getting around difficult and cuts out virtually any physical activity. To reduce pain and swelling, it’s also suggested that you ice the injured area for 20-30 minutes three or four times a day until the pain is gone. Wrapping the area with an elastic band is often also suggested to reduce swelling. The method also recommends propping up your leg when you’re seated or lying down so that it is constantly at a slight incline.
This method can take weeks to heal the injury and often limits the amount of activity during the recovery period.
Airrosti Hamstring Strain Treatment
At Airrosti, we employ a different method to speed recovery time and keep our patients moving. We use a hands-on therapy that treats the pain at the source. During each treatment session, your Airrosti provider will conduct tests to pinpoint the cause of the pain so that they can treat it directly at the source. This targeted treatment yields to a fast, effective recovery.
We also educate our patients on how to perform at-home active rehab exercises and stretches to strengthen muscles and increase flexibility. By integrating these stretches and exercises into a routine, the chances of re-injury are lessened substantially.
