It’s been a week and a half since the 2016 CrossFit Games came to an end. Time for athletes to celebrate, rest, recover, and reflect. We caught up with Stacie Tovar after her seventh Games appearance to learn first-hand about her journey to the 2016 Games.

1. How do you feel now that the Games have come to a close?

I’m exhausted both physically and mentally, but slowly starting to feel like my normal self again. I’m thankful for the memories and another opportunity to compete in the CrossFit Games. I’m looking forward to a few weeks off from training and hopefully doing it all over again.

2. What was the highlight of your 2016 season as a whole?

There’s not many athletes that can say they’ve been to the Games seven times. I’m really proud of that. It took a lot of focused effort after taking over a business seven months ago.

3. What was your favorite event?

The Rope Chipper was my favorite. I liked the integration of the skierg and the assault bike. I also really like chippers.

4. Describe your biggest challenge and how you overcame it.

There were several big challenges this year, but the obvious one was becoming severely dehydrated on Saturday. Thanks to the amazing medical staff at the CrossFit Games I was able to pull through it and somehow finish out the competition, even when my body wanted to shut down and quit. I didn’t feel good, but I kept trying to convince myself the opposite. My mind was worn, but I just kept going.

5. What was the biggest surprise at the Games?

I had a feeling that we would be heading back to the ranch one of these days. I thought this might be the year since it was the 10 year anniversary, but never thought we’d get there by airplane! It was definitely an experience I will never forget.

6. How did Airrosti help you perform at such a high level of intensity?

Unless you experience it, you really can’t put into words how much Airrosti treatment helps. Recovery is crucial and you guys take it to another level. The staff gets you in with a doctor within minutes of showing up and literally won’t let you leave until they know your aches and pains are feeling better. You guys are always so great to work with. As an athlete, I am very thankful they have you there for us at the Regional and the CrossFit Games.

7. What advice do you have for people aspiring to compete in the Games?

It’s ok to be a little selfish. If making it to the Games is your dream, then you have to make it your absolute top priority, yet find the perfect blend of life, love, and friendships.

8. Finally, what’s one word you would use to describe your 2016 journey?

Different.
