Earth Day was started in 1970 to raise awareness about pollution and celebrate the environment. Since its grassroots beginning, Earth Day is now global and spreads across 141 countries.
People all across the globe take time each April 22 to acknowledge the beauty of our world and volunteer to make it a better place. There are many little things you can do to help cut pollution and reduce your energy footprint that also benefit your health.

Healthy Ways To Celebrate

Bike to work. Hopping on your bike instead of hopping into your car for your commute cuts down pollution and gives you a great workout. Not only is it a free gym on wheels, but it keeps your immune system healthy. You’re more likely to get sick riding the bus, with viruses lurking in passengers you’d be sharing a bench with. You’ll also skip the morning traffic jams and cut your emissions out completely.
Grow your own food. Growing your own fruits and veggies allows you to easily add native plants in your dinner. This is great for the environment because it cuts out the middle men who transport grocery store fruits and veggies from farm to store, reducing pollution. Growing your own fruits and veggies also prompts you to eat better, helping to improve your overall health.
Clean up a park. Cleaning up a local park not only gives you a nice workout the day of, but a clean park also gives you a place to exercise in the future. A few hours of cleaning can benefit both you and the Earth for years to come.
Take a walk. You can also just appreciate the Earth’s beauty by taking a nice walk. A brisk walk gets your heart pumping and gives you the opportunity to really breathe in some fresh air and take in the landscape and wildlife all around you.
