Pain in the arm can occur in various areas, such as the shoulder, elbow, or wrist. Pain in the upper arm is often linked to injuries, muscle overuse, or joint problems. It can also result from nerve compression or restricted blood flow.
While we often associate injuries with sudden impacts, repetitive movements and overuse can also lead to gradual wear and tear, particularly in the muscles of the upper arm. Pinpointing the source of the pain is key to determining the type of injury or issue, such as a muscle strain or joint condition.
The symptoms of an arm injury can vary depending on the cause and location of the pain. Some signs to watch out for include:
• Tenderness or soreness
• Redness or swelling
• Joint stiffness or pain
• Numbness or tingling in the arm
• Limited range of motion
• Pain that radiates down the arm
In more serious cases, such as fractures or torn ligaments, bruising and difficulty moving the arm are common symptoms. It’s also important to note that upper arm pain, especially on the left side, combined with chest pain, dizziness, nausea, and shortness of breath, can be symptoms of a heart issue.
If you suspect you are having a heart attack or heart-related issue, please call 911 immediately.
As we age, the muscles and joints in the arm can become more prone to injury due to natural muscle loss. Younger individuals and athletes, especially those involved in repetitive activities, are at higher risk for overuse injuries. Exercising with poor form or pushing beyond your body’s limits can also increase the chances of developing arm pain.
If you’re experiencing persistent arm pain, it’s important to get it evaluated by a healthcare professional to prevent further complications.
Surgery is not usually necessary for arm pain. Most cases can be effectively treated with conservative methods such as rest, physical therapy, Airrosti care, and medications. Surgery may be considered if there is severe injury, such as a fracture, torn tendon, or nerve compression, that does not improve with conservative treatments. A healthcare professional will help determine if surgery is the best option based on the underlying cause and severity of the arm pain.
Yes, it’s generally safe to take medications for arm pain, but it’s important to follow your healthcare provider’s recommendations. Over-the-counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen can help reduce inflammation and alleviate discomfort. In more severe cases, prescription medications may be recommended. Always consult a healthcare provider before starting any new medication, especially if you have other health conditions or are taking other medications.
Yes, self-care and specific exercises can help alleviate arm pain. Resting the affected arm and avoiding activities that worsen the pain are key in the early stages. Gentle stretches and strengthening exercises for the muscles in the arm, wrist, and shoulder can help restore function once the pain subsides. Icing the affected area, using a brace, and maintaining good posture can also help reduce pain and prevent further injury. Consulting an Airrosti Certified Provider can ensure you perform the right exercises for your condition.
Yes, modifying your activity is important to avoid worsening the arm pain. Avoid activities that involve heavy lifting, repetitive motions, or excessive strain on the arm. Low-impact activities, such as walking or cycling, can help maintain fitness while allowing the arm to heal. Gradually reintroducing higher-impact activities as the pain improves is usually recommended. If pain persists or worsens, consult a healthcare provider for a proper evaluation and advice on activity modification.
I had my C4-7 fused and due to the damage before hand could not lift my left arm up above my head and always had severe pain in the shoulder area. I had been to my regular Chiropractor and had deep tissue massages, and rehab and nothing helped. I just gave up on ever being pain free. Dr Trimmier changed that, after my first appointment I left actually having hope on being normal again. Now after my 3rd appointment I have felt better than I have since this started back in July 2017. All I can say is don't give up and go to an Airrosti near you, the results are unbelievable.

I had been in pain from the right side of my arm, down to numbness in my fingers. The pain was so severe I could not sleep at night. I called Arrosti and they made me an appointment with Dr.Kramer. After 2 visits, and with help of her Assistant Pete, I am pain free and sleeping great at night. Thank you so much Arrosti, Dr. Kramer, and Pete.

After seeking alternative treatment in an attempt to avoid surgery, a friend told me about Airrosti. I went online and had an appointment the next day. I was suffering from no sleep due to pain, deadening numbness and discomfort in both hands and arms and could not find relief. After even just the first visit with Dr. Ellspermann, it was incredible the difference. I actually got sleep. The following treatments proved more improvement with each one. Not only was the treatment incredible and how quickly it worked, but Dr. Ellspermann made the discomfort bearable. Great personality and truly enjoys what he is doing. It was enjoyable to visit with him and recovery specialist, Katrina. Great team!!! I share my experience with everyone and hig...+ show morehly recommend Dr. Ellspermann and Airrosti.

I had been suffering for months with pain in my elbow and shoulder due to multiple injuries. Massage and chiropractic care were not bringing lasting results, so I had to dig deeper. Dr. Lakin aggressively treated my arm (at my request), and brought me back to a place where healing could finally begin. I'm very thankful for her skills, persistence, and the assistance of her physical therapist Paige. I highly recommend Dr. Lakin's services to anyone searching for unmedicated, non-surgical pain relief!

I damaged my arm and shoulder. I extended it back farther than an arm should go (Playing with the grand kids). I went two months without being able to use my arm without having excruciating pain. I finally called around and decided to go to Airrosti. Dr Wade explained what was wrong with my arm and had visual charts showing me exactly where it was and what needed to be done. I have gone for a total of 4 visits. I no longer have pain and I can use my arm again! Best of all NO SURGERY needed. God bless you Dr. Wade

I had been in a lot of pain for several months, and I had very limited movement in my arm. I had been going to a massage therapist for 2 months, then a chiropractor for 8 months with no relief. During the time I was going to the chiropractor, I went to a myofascial tissue release specialist paid $100 and she mainly talked to me for an hour. After one session with Dr. Wells, I had some relief. After the second session, I had more relief and a lot more mobility. After the third session, I feel like I’m about 75% back to normal. The therapy is painful but well worth enduring a little pain to get rid of the constant pain and get mobility back. Thank you Dr. Wells!

Dr. Newman provided awesome treatment. When I made the appointment, my pain level in my arm was at a 10. After receiving 3 treatments, my pain level was at a 1 or better. I can't thank Dr. Newman and his staff enough for the cordial and professional treatment that I received at Forney Family Medical. Special thanks to Amy, the physical therapist for providing me with exercises that worked. I would recommend Airrosti to anyone in the Forney area.

I owe Doctor Olds my USAPL Nationals Qualifying total. After two months of pain while doing anything with my left arm, to the point that I could no longer hold a barbell on my back for heavy squats, I decided to listen to the athletes at my gym and go see Doc Olds for the pain. I immediately felt welcome in the office, and could see that Olds was genuinely concerned with the problems I was having. After the first visit I was able to hold the barbell on my back for squats, and three visits later I was able to bench press properly again. I know if I had not gone to see Doctor Olds, I would not have qualified for USA Powerlifting Nationals this April, and would not be prepping to attempt a 415 wilks at Nationals in October. Olds gives pheno...+ show moremenal care, has an in-depth knowledge of sports injuries and how to treat them, and he also happens to be hilarious which helped get through the pain of the initial visit. He and his assistant, Sara Geer, make a perfect health and recovery team. I send any and all athletes I know who have pain or injuries, straight to their office.
