Pain in the arm can occur in various areas, such as the shoulder, elbow, or wrist. Pain in the upper arm is often linked to injuries, muscle overuse, or joint problems. It can also result from nerve compression or restricted blood flow.
While we often associate injuries with sudden impacts, repetitive movements and overuse can also lead to gradual wear and tear, particularly in the muscles of the upper arm. Pinpointing the source of the pain is key to determining the type of injury or issue, such as a muscle strain or joint condition.
The symptoms of an arm injury can vary depending on the cause and location of the pain. Some signs to watch out for include:
• Tenderness or soreness
• Redness or swelling
• Joint stiffness or pain
• Numbness or tingling in the arm
• Limited range of motion
• Pain that radiates down the arm
In more serious cases, such as fractures or torn ligaments, bruising and difficulty moving the arm are common symptoms. It’s also important to note that upper arm pain, especially on the left side, combined with chest pain, dizziness, nausea, and shortness of breath, can be symptoms of a heart issue.
If you suspect you are having a heart attack or heart-related issue, please call 911 immediately.
As we age, the muscles and joints in the arm can become more prone to injury due to natural muscle loss. Younger individuals and athletes, especially those involved in repetitive activities, are at higher risk for overuse injuries. Exercising with poor form or pushing beyond your body’s limits can also increase the chances of developing arm pain.
If you’re experiencing persistent arm pain, it’s important to get it evaluated by a healthcare professional to prevent further complications.
Surgery is not usually necessary for arm pain. Most cases can be effectively treated with conservative methods such as rest, physical therapy, Airrosti care, and medications. Surgery may be considered if there is severe injury, such as a fracture, torn tendon, or nerve compression, that does not improve with conservative treatments. A healthcare professional will help determine if surgery is the best option based on the underlying cause and severity of the arm pain.
Yes, it’s generally safe to take medications for arm pain, but it’s important to follow your healthcare provider’s recommendations. Over-the-counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen can help reduce inflammation and alleviate discomfort. In more severe cases, prescription medications may be recommended. Always consult a healthcare provider before starting any new medication, especially if you have other health conditions or are taking other medications.
Yes, self-care and specific exercises can help alleviate arm pain. Resting the affected arm and avoiding activities that worsen the pain are key in the early stages. Gentle stretches and strengthening exercises for the muscles in the arm, wrist, and shoulder can help restore function once the pain subsides. Icing the affected area, using a brace, and maintaining good posture can also help reduce pain and prevent further injury. Consulting an Airrosti Certified Provider can ensure you perform the right exercises for your condition.
Yes, modifying your activity is important to avoid worsening the arm pain. Avoid activities that involve heavy lifting, repetitive motions, or excessive strain on the arm. Low-impact activities, such as walking or cycling, can help maintain fitness while allowing the arm to heal. Gradually reintroducing higher-impact activities as the pain improves is usually recommended. If pain persists or worsens, consult a healthcare provider for a proper evaluation and advice on activity modification.
Before I even began my recovery journey, Airrosti and Dr. Moll were both highly referred by my boyfriend who was able to rehab his shoulder through this program. So, when I experienced my own issues, they were the first people I contacted. Golf and Crossfit are my two sports and while I've never had a significant or major injury, I was starting to experience numbness and tingling in my left hand/forearm, a pinching in my left armpit, and major neck and back tightness. Dr. Moll was amazing to work with because we had to do some experimentation to really pinpoint my issues since my movement was uninhibited for the most part, but I was experiencing symptoms for the rest of the day after movement. Dr. Moll has been so gracious and enthusiast...+ show moreic about guiding me through this process and even though it was via telehealth it was still just as effective as in-person since we did virtual tests and he could send me example videos during our calls. Other items that I really enjoyed about the Airrosti program included: they send you a box of rehab goodies specifically for your rehab needs (the peanut is my absolute favorite), the app provides detailed videos to walk you through your exercises and stretches, if you need help with accountability the app really makes sure to check in with you and you can track your sessions, scheduling or rescheduling sessions through the app is extremely easy, and they let you keep your rehab program even after your program is done. I truly feel that Airrosti and Dr. Moll specifically go above and beyond to ensure that you are well taken care of. They are not interested in rushing you through the process and genuinely want to make sure that you come out of it completely improved. I can't even begin to express my gratitude to Dr. Moll for handling my needs so well and being extremely knowledgeable in finding and addressing the root of my issues. He truly CARES and that is what makes all the difference in the world. My sincerest thanks to Dr. Moll and Airrosti for making this program possible.
