Your neck is made up of many components, such as ligaments, tendons, and muscles. Because the neck has an extensive range of motion, it is susceptible to many injuries and painful conditions. In addition, the neck’s ability to function properly is directly tied to many other muscle groups, like the shoulder, back, and chest.
Additionally, if neck pain is left untreated, it can become persistent chronic neck pain. Chronic neck pain can present itself as pain, stiffness, and soreness in the neck, perhaps with decreased mobility, that lasts more than several weeks.
One of the most common causes of neck pain is injury to the soft tissues, including the neck muscles, tendons, and ligaments within these structures. Individuals who spend most of their day sitting at work, or doing sedentary activities, have a high-risk factor for developing this condition. The risk is increased especially high for those who sit in poor posture, with the head in a flexed forward position.
In addition to muscle strains and sprains, several other common neck pain causes, such as herniated discs, Osteoarthritis (developing from the wear and tear of cartilage and bones), as well as rheumatoid arthritis. In some cases, this condition may also be caused by an injury to the cervical spine, cervical disc degeneration disease, or other injuries that put pressure on the nerve roots.
Symptoms may include:
• Pain that’s often worsened by holding your head in one place for long period (such as when driving or working at a computer)
• Muscle tightness and spasms
• Decreased ability to move your head
• General soreness, on left or right side, below the ear
• Numbness, tingling, or weakness
Recurring neck pain can not only affect other parts of your body, but other aspects of your life. It can influence your sleeping habits, your ability to work, and even your mental wellbeing. People with severe chronic neck pain are more likely to have other areas of their life affected, such as social activities, and may spend excessive amounts of money seeking various treatments.
Surgery is not always necessary for neck pain. In many cases, conservative treatments such as rest, physical therapy, Airrosti care, medication, and lifestyle modifications can effectively manage symptoms and improve neck function. Surgery may be considered if conservative treatments fail to provide relief, or if there is evidence of structural issues such as cervical disc herniation or spinal stenosis that require surgical intervention. It’s important to discuss all treatment options with a healthcare professional to determine the best course of action.
It’s generally safe to take medications for neck pain, but it’s important to use them as directed by your healthcare provider. Over-the-counter pain relievers such as acetaminophen or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) can help reduce inflammation and alleviate discomfort. Prescription medications such as muscle relaxants or corticosteroids may be recommended for more severe cases of neck pain. It’s important to consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new medication regimen, especially if you have underlying health conditions or are taking other medications.
Yes, there are several self-care techniques and exercises that can help alleviate neck pain. These may include gentle stretching exercises to improve flexibility, strengthening exercises to support the neck and shoulder muscles, and relaxation techniques such as deep breathing or meditation to reduce muscle tension and stress. Additionally, maintaining good posture, using ergonomic workstations, and avoiding activities that exacerbate symptoms can help prevent further injury to the neck.
While it’s important to avoid activities that exacerbate neck pain, completely restricting all activity may not be necessary. Modifying activities to reduce strain on the neck and incorporating rest breaks can help alleviate symptoms. Gentle exercises such as walking or swimming can be beneficial for improving circulation and promoting healing without putting excessive strain on the neck. However, if neck pain persists or worsens with activity, it’s important to consult with a healthcare professional for proper evaluation and guidance on activity modification.
I came to Airrosti per another friend's recommendation for ongoing neck pain. They got me back in shape within the first visit! I truly thought the pain was going to last forever until my appointment. I love their approach to care - the physical therapy component has helped so much for ongoing prevention. Thanks, Airrosti!

Sometime around 2016, I went to Dr. Payne regarding some significant pain in my right neck/shoulder which was limiting my mobility. The tissue in my neck/shoulder was extremely tight after 5 visits of having Dr. Payne press her thumbs into my neck/shoulder tissue, I had ZERO pain and full mobility for as long as I did the exercises I was given for self care. To this day, I have not had any issues.

I had neck problems and the aciatic nerve on my left leg. I was in a bad shape. I was having problems lifting objects . Now, I am able to walk and workout. Thank u to Dr. Dizier. He listens and very patiently. I highly recommend it.

I had neck pain and tension that did not respond to treat for several years. Dr. Garza was able to make significant improvements after a few weeks.

I originally came in with neck pain from having severe and multiple migraine headaches. Just after 4 visits I was doing great, but then I fell and injured my right shoulder, hip, and low back--so when I went in for what was to be my last visit for my original problem, Dr. Abilez changed my treatment and after 5 more treatments my new injuries were addressed and treated--and I am doing very well. I am a retired Physical Therapist and I am very impressed with the quality of these treatments, and the skills of the staff. I would highly recommend them.

Dr. Moore was very attentive to the pain I was experiencing. I often feel as though doctors don't take pain seriously. Not so with Dr. Moore! She patiently listened so she could tailor her treatment. I was experiencing neck pain and saw huge improvements after just two visits.

I've was suffering with a horrible neck pain from working out for two weeks, Karena Stalnaker DC was AMAZING! I'll admit I went in thinking there's no way this pain could go away. Two visits and my pain was gone! It's just something I still can't believe or explain!! She explains everything perfect physical treatments + exercises! She assured me doing the exercises on my own will help strengthen the muscles around the area causing my pain. She is professional, knowledgeable, very friendly and cares for her patients. I STRONGLY recommend Karena Stalnaker DC and Airrosti to anyone who needs help they care about your outcome and physical needs!!!

I would highly recommend Airrosti, Dr. Moore went out of her way to evaluate my medical records to understand my discomfort in my shoulder and neck. She explained her findings and was able to work magic on the discomfort and pain along with providing exercises to help with the issue. She’s taken an approach to my overall health which made me feel confident about the care received.

I initially saw Dr. Fearn for neck and back pain. I was seeing a chiropractor, but after a bad and painful experience, I heard about and decided to try Airrosti. WOW! I am so glad I found this place! Neck and back pain…gone! I will be using Airrosti and Dr Fearn on a weekly basis.

This is my 3rd time with Sarah (for different issues). Her care and compassion, along with attentive listening helped me resolve every single issue! I cannot recommend her enough. The most important part of your treatment plan I feel are the exercises carefully curated for your needs. They really DO work! This past issue was literally a "pain in the neck" that was keeping me from enjoying life, and using regular pain killers. No more! No more pain, no more meds. And I'm continuing the exercises because those special stretches just FEEL good to my body.

Went to see Dr. Garza because I was having trouble sleeping from so much tension in my neck and shoulders. After a few visits I had significant improvement and was able to sleep through the night.

I had been to a couple of different physical therapy places and would get some relief but the issues would always come back. I decided to try Airrosti and boy I am glad I did. They gave me the tools I needed going forward to prevent the neck and low back pain issues I have been dealing with over the last couple of years. I am now able to do my full workouts again using light to moderate weights. I 100% recommend Airrosti!!

After heavy workout sessions, I would have sharp pains in my neck and upper back. Dr. Alvarado was able to identify the root cause of the pain, show me stretches to relieve the pain and stretches to keep the pain from reoccurring. It only took 2 sessions to relieve the pain, and 1 more follow up session to keep the pain from coming back.

Dr. Garza is absolutely amazing! I was having horrible neck pain, and barely any range of motion. My brother-in-law referred me to Airrosti, I made an appt with Dr. Garza, and after just one appointment I felt SO much better! This was my very first time going to a chiropractor but Dr. Garza was very thorough and transparent about the whole process and clear on what to expect, which I really appreciated. At first, he suggested it might take 4-5 sessions to address my neck pain, but after the first appointment I've only had to go back one more time, and I feel like a whole new person. I would highly recommend Airrosti, and more specifically Dr. Garza!

I am a high school teacher and the last few years have been super stressful. About a month ago, I woke up with neck and shoulder pain but just assumed it was stress and would go away in a few days. About a month later, I was in so much pain that I could barely make it through the day. A friend suggested Airrosti and luckily that day Dr Moore had an opening. It only took her about 15 minutes to figure out what was wrong and begin a treatment plan. The treatment was quick and her rehab specialist, Laura taught me my exercises during the visit. Both explained everything to me in detail and answered all of my questions. I progressed exactly how Dr Moore explained. By the time I returned for my next visit a week later, I was feeling SO much b...+ show moreetter. She followed up with another treatment session and gave me more rehab exercise to work on. I can’t believe how much better I feel after only two visits! I would highly recommend Dr Moore to anyone experiencing pain. She is AMAZING!!!

Came in with excruciating neck/shoulder pain and Dr. Moore solved it completely in two sessions. Scheduling was very easy, she was extremely professional and knew exactly what the trouble was. I will always go to Airrosti first before anywhere else when I have pain. Dr. Moore especially is an expert!

My doctor recommended Airrosti after telling her about some chronic neck and shoulder pain that I’ve been having for years. I’m so glad I took up her recommendation and gave Airrosti a try. After one visit with Dr. Garza and his staff, I was already feeling an improvement. By the end of my treatments, I felt like a had a normal range of motion again. I’m glad I have found a new solution to dealing with my neck pain. Thanks!

Airrosti has been a Godsend for my pain. I have a degenerative disc in my neck along with Fibromyalgia and arthritis in one knee. I am still a current patient but a work in progress. My pain has reduced significantly since seeing Dr. Hurt and Dr. Rose!!

I was unable to turn my head from side to side or up and down. It was having significant neck and shoulder pain when driving, sleeping, and while at work. I set up an appointment very quickly to see Dr. Garza. His treatment and exercise plan made a significant difference within 24 hours of my visit. My pain and range of motion dramatically improved after 48 hours. I had a follow-up visit one week later. I now have a full range of motion and no pain. Thank you so much, Dr. Garza.

I have had chronic neck, shoulder, and upper back pain due to bad posture and work involving sitting in front of the computer for more than 40-50 hours per week. Dr. Garza really listened and worked on the problem right from the first visit. I saw 25 % improvement with each visit, which was incredible and unexpected. The rehab exercises recommended are very easy to do and provide significant pain relief in-between visits and help in maintaining long-term results post-treatment. Definitely recommend Airrosti and Dr. Garza!

Dr. Wu and PT Kaitlyn helped me to get back to performing daily activities with minimal discomfort! Due to 30+ years of running, cycling, and weight lifting, I developed osteoarthritis in my lumbar and cervical regions. While the surgery was the only option for my neck, I was told by my surgeon that I did not yet need any procedure on my low back. Good news, but the pain, tingling, and weakness were impacting my lifestyle including my job as an acute care nurse in an Orthopedic unit. Dr. Wu kneaded out knots I never knew existed and loosened up the muscles and ligaments that support my spine. The physical therapist would give me the tools to maintain and strengthen my back. I'm so grateful for Dr. Wu and Airrosti! They taught me how to t...+ show moreake control of my body and strengthen it to carry me through the rest of my life!! Highly recommend!

I've made two visits to Airrosti over the last three years for various neck and back pain. I often recommend them to anyone dealing with pain, regardless of where it is or where it came from. Dr. Powell (in 2019) and Dr. Garza (in 2021) listened thoroughly to the description of the pain I was feeling and worked diligently to fix the issues. The therapists then take the time to show the exercises and apply any tape. The process is very efficient. For all six visits, I was in and out in under an hour. Although I hope to avoid pain over the years and not see the Airrosti people often, it is comforting to know that they are close by if needed.

I've had neck and shoulder pain that caused headaches since I was16 years old. I went to regular massage therapists, and chiropractors, but nothing fixed my problem. Within a week, I needed to go back for another adjustment. I decided to give Airrosti a try. Dr. Bonk walked me through everything and made me feel super comfortable. After my first session, we discovered that my issues were actually related to my posture, but more specifically the muscles around my clavicles that were preventing me from having proper posture. In two more sessions, I was "fixed". The exercises he gave me keep the tension away when I need them, but I haven't had a tension headache since. I literally can't believe it. 14 years of pain, and in three sessions I ...+ show morewas better. Unbelievable! Thanks Dr. Bonk and team. You changed my life.

I am 59 years old and had a biking accident about 6 weeks ago. I fell on the concrete and hit hard on my left hip. I tried to roll to my left to get up and couldn't endure the pain. I had to roll to my right and use my bike to pull myself up. I went to my primary care physician and they did the usual steroid shot and asked if I wanted steroid pills as well. I am not one for taking a lot of pills so I opted for the steroid shot and said I am ok. About a week later my pain was worse and had moved into my neck as well. I decided to try Arrositi as I had a tennis elbow repaired a few years back by this method. I have been so impressed by Dr. Barnett and his staff. I am getting better quickly with PT solutions created to assist me in my recov...+ show moreery. I am very happy I made this choice and to find Dr. Barnett. I highly recommend his practice.

I was referred by my primary doctor, as I had horrible pain in my upper right trap and neck for a year. I was able to get relief from the first appointment with Dr. Woytek. He is amazing!! I like to call him the “miracle doctor”! After only a few treatments, my pain was under control and relieved immensely. I continue to go just for maintenance and can do all the things I was debilitated from for over a year. Thank you Airrosti and Dr. Woytek!

Dr. Monika helped me understand and treat my chronic neck pain. I had only ever been given quick fixes for my neck but Dr. Monika not only treated my pain but set me up with tools to ensure that I stay out of pain long term. I really am grateful to her for helping me with something that was an issue for me for years.

I am a BJJ practitioner and strained my neck at practice. It was difficult for me to turn my head to the left without pain that spread down to between my shoulder blades. I have done the office visit before with a different injury but did not have time to take off for an office visit. So I decided to try out the remote recovery from my work office. Dr. Danisiewicz evaluated me via televisit and was able to diagnose and send me the exercises to help alleviate the pain. After one week of doing the exercises the pain had gone down and I was able to turn more to the left almost aligned with my shoulder. For the second week doctor adjusted my exercise treatment and today was my last appointment, after two weeks the pain has gone and I am now ...+ show moreable to turn completely to the left aligned with my shoulder. This program works whether you are in the office or at home with the televisit, you just have to put in the work.

Sitting behind the computer all day was causing some neck pain and stiffness in my upper back. After signing up with Airrosti and getting the equipment and training needed the range of motion on my neck has improved tremendously. My shoulders and upper back feel relaxed and less tense. I would highly recommend Airrosti to all my friends. Thank you Dr. Offenburger for all your help.
