Hip pain and stiffness is a common condition treated at Airrosti. The hip is one of the largest joints in the body. To function correctly and with full range of motion, the ligaments, muscles, and fascia surrounding the joint must be working in unison. To know how to best treat hip pain, you should understand how it occurs, what symptoms to look out for, and what kind of treatment may be best for you.

The hip joint is designed to withstand repeated motion and a fair amount of wear and tear. This ball-and-socket joint allows for fluid lower body movements. While many causes of hip pain can arise from the joint itself, there are numerous structures surrounding the hip that can also be the source of pain.
Untreated acute trauma is often the cause of hip pain, but any source of inflammation may cause discomfort in the hip area. Pain is one of the symptoms of inflammation, along with swelling, warmth, and redness; together these are signals and symptoms that a problem may exist.
Aside from an acute injury, some other causes include overuse injuries in which muscles, tendons, and ligaments can become inflamed. Overuse of the hip can also wear away the cartilage in the hip joint, causing arthritis. Common hip problems caused by strain and overuse include hip tendonitis/tendinitis, hip bursitis, and hip flexor strain.
You may also experience referred pain from other structures outside the hip joint. This means that, while the hip hurts, the problem may originate elsewhere, such as Snapping Hip Syndrome being actually being caused by the iliotibial band.
Depending on the condition that’s causing your hip pain, you may feel discomfort in various parts of your body, including:
• In the upper thigh
• Inside or outside of the hip joint
• Around the groin
• Around the buttocks
• In the low back
Signs of an inflammatory condition like tendonitis or bursitis often include:
• Reduced range of motion in the hips
• Tenderness and swelling
• Stiffness in the hip muscles and joints
• Increased pain when pressure is added to the affected area
• Increased fatigue during physical activity
• Pain may be worse at night, when lying on the affected hip, when you move your hip, and when getting up from a seated position
Surgery is not always necessary for hip pain. In many cases, conservative treatments such as rest, physical therapy, Airrosti care, medication, and lifestyle modifications can effectively manage symptoms and improve hip function. Surgery may be considered if conservative treatments fail to provide relief, or if there is evidence of severe damage to the hip joint such as arthritis, labral tears, or a fracture.
It’s generally safe to take medications for hip pain, but it’s important to use them as directed by your healthcare provider. Over-the-counter pain relievers such as acetaminophen or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) can help reduce inflammation and alleviate discomfort. Prescription medications such as muscle relaxants or corticosteroid injections may be recommended for more severe cases of hip pain. It’s important to consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new medication regimen, especially if you have underlying health conditions or are taking other medications.
Yes, there are several self-care techniques and exercises that can help alleviate hip pain. These may include gentle stretching exercises to improve flexibility, strengthening exercises to stabilize the hip joint, and low-impact activities such as swimming or cycling to maintain mobility and reduce stress on the hip. Additionally, applying ice or heat to the affected area, and maintaining a healthy weight can also help alleviate hip pain.
While it’s important to avoid activities that exacerbate hip pain, completely restricting all activity may not be necessary. Modifying activities to reduce strain on the hip joint and incorporating rest breaks can help alleviate symptoms. Low-impact exercises such as walking or gentle yoga can be beneficial for maintaining mobility and promoting healing. However, if hip pain persists or worsens with activity, it’s important to consult with a healthcare professional for proper evaluation and guidance on activity modification.
So glad to have met Dr. Brittany at my gym. She was right on time in helping me resolve a nagging hip issue. I looked forward to the visits. Within 4 sessions I am feeling 100% better. I am proof that this therapy works!

My daughter is a 13 year old competitive dancer and has been experiencing hip pain for a couple years. Nothing terrible but we went and saw her pediatrician and a chiropractor with minimal results. Then it got worse, spread into her hamstring and was really causing her a lot of pain when dancing. A dance teacher recommended Airrosti and I’m so glad we found Dr. Patel through just a google search! There was immediate relief after the very first visit!! And after only 3 visits the pain was gone! It sounds too good to be true but it really worked! AND beyond helping her pain she was able to connect with a 13 year old girl! That in itself is a huge task! My daughter felt comfortable, I felt comfortable, the entire experience was great! I h...+ show moread to tell my daughter to stop talking to her so we could leave and she could see her next patient! My daughter, not me, has already referred 2 clients to Dr. Patel who are also satisfied and I’m sure we will send more! All the stars!!

I've known for years how effective the quick and lasting outcomes are of the Airrosti approach on pain issues that have surfaced for me a few times. Dr. Gibson is very knowledgeable with technique and is very detailed in her explanation of treatment. What launched her into next level expertise was her confidence in helping my 87 year old momma with some severe hip pain she was having. My mom trusted my suggestion to see Dr. Gibson and after just the first visit she experienced complete relief. To see the look of comfort come over my mom's face in that moment where I knew Dr. Gibson had found the right combination of pressure was the glorious release! Aside from my own personal gratitude, I cannot say enough wonderful things about the ver...+ show morey caring and skilled Dr. Amanda Gibson!

I came to Airrosti with hip pain that wouldn't go away over a span of 4-6 months. At first, I thought it was some inflammation or impingement that would go away, but it didn't. I was certain I had damage in the joint that may require surgery to continue doing what I love, CrossFit, pain-free. I was recommended by another happy customer, Amber Dach, who had a shoulder issue that Dr. D helped as well. Amber had a quick recovery as well and insisted I try Airrosti. Once I met Dr. D, I hit all the exercises as he prescribed and within a matter of 4-5 weeks my pain is completely gone. I'm able to participate in fitness activities that used to bring some discomfort and pain but now do not. If you're on the fence about trying Airrosti, don't be...+ show more, take the time and give it a shot. You will not be disappointed. Thanks, Dr. D!

My hips have been hurting for a while, despite physical therapy. When I started the tele visits with Denyse, I was skeptical, but in the first visit she showed an enormous amount of knowledge, was reassuring, and very communicative. She insisted that if I did my exercises as prescribed, I would be good to go in no time. I did the exercises as often as I could and stuck to the treatment plan and I can say it helped a lot! I've been working out regularly and playing softball again and no hip pain! Definitely worth it.

I’m an avid runner, and over the past year my left hip — specifically my upper hamstring — was tight and bothered me when I’d go for a run. It wasn’t debilitating, but it was uncomfortable and something was definitely wrong. Over the past two years during Covid I worked from home and my home office setup wasn’t ergonomic, which ultimately resulted in the recurring hip pain I was experiencing. It was frustrating, and despite rest and some stretching, nothing was easing the pain. I heard about Airrosti from a family member who had experienced similar discomfort, so I thought I’d give it a try. Dr. Story and the treatment was extremely helpful. He worked with me to identify the issues I was experiencing and focused treatment i...+ show moren a targeted and progressive manner to alleviate the discomfort and underlying issues. My discomfort hasn’t fully subsided (it will take time to reverse two years of negligence), but the treatment he provided and the home stretching and strengthening exercises have helped tremendously! I plan to continue with the plan provided and look forward to being back to normal very soon!

I had hip pain for over six months, and Dr. Ruvalcaba fixed my pain. I go back to doing my daily activities.

I am 72 and pretty healthy. I recently began having pain in my hip and down my leg to the point I could hardly walk. After I had an MRI it showed I had some back issues. My physician, Dr. Richards, referred me to Airrosti for treatment where I met Dr. Ullrich. What a blessing. After six treatments my back pain is so much less and manageable with the exercises he gave me with very little OTC pain medication. I was treated with respect and felt Dr. Ullrich was truly vested in making me better. I strongly recommend him if you're in need of treatment.

I had pain in my hip that got progressively worse and started to radiate down the front of my thigh. I started to panic when our family was scheduled to depart for Disney World and I was told the average person walks 9 miles a day at the parks. I was in pain walking from my bedroom to the kitchen. A massage therapist said she thought I had a muscle that wasn’t firing and that the other muscles were overcompensating. I went to Dr. Hoyt in a desperate plea to fix me up before Disney. He diagnosed me with glute medius trochanteric bursitis and manipulated the area for about 15 minutes. He was aggressive but effective. I expected I would need at least 2 more visits but I was leaving for Disney in just 3 days. I iced the area that same even...+ show moreing and the next day. I did take one prednisone pill each of the 5 days at the parks but has not had a pill in 6 days. Y'ALL, I walked 54 miles over 5 park days without ANY pain!!!! This man worked a miracle. It has now been almost 2 weeks since my first appointment and I am literally 100 percent better! I cannot recommend Airrosti and Dr. Hoyt more! In my case, it was one and done. I am so thankful.

My experience at Airrosti was awesome! I had been having pain in my hips and knees for about 10 years. I had started limping, and a friend noticed and recommended Dr. Wu. I went this summer and the improvement was great! I was still having pain in my knee. I went one more time and this is the best I have felt in years. I highly recommend it!

Sarah was great! She was compassionate, caring, and a great bedside matter. I felt very comfortable with her. She also helped prescribe the exercises I needed to alleviate the pain in my hip, and the hip adjustments were wonderful. Great service! Sarah is the BOMB!!!!

Like all of us, I was doing a lot of sitting at home during the start of the pandemic. I started to feel discomfort then it turned into pain, so bad that I could barely sit. I tried my best to find stretches online, I got multiple massages… Then my massage therapist recommended the Airrosti therapy. Dr. Bodziony identified immediately what my issues were, poor posture, weakness in my hips and legs and back, just by asking questions and watching me sit. I went way too long before pulling the trigger and that’s the only thing that I regret!! The therapy, the specific exercises, the virtual support, and the therapy kit tools gave me what I needed to slowly get relief. Anytime I slacked back on certain exercises I would feel pain, so I k...+ show morenew everything was working. So I kept doing what I was supposed to, and in just under a year, I’m just about 100% pain-free. Once injured, this will be a lifelong thing I have to fight. But the tools that I have learned and the experience I’ve gained have motivated me to keep the good cycle of activity, exercise, walking, and mobility as a way of life. Anytime I have a future injury I know exactly who to call. Thank you for everything!!

Even through exclusively Tele Visits, Tom was able to correctly identify what was causing me to have back and hip pain while sitting and standing for long periods of time. Over the span of just a few months, Tom provided me with exercises that immediately started to decrease my pain and increase the amount of time I was able to do the activities I enjoy! The exercises were very user-friendly and had difficulty-level options to be inclusive of any amount of pain one is feeling. The Airrosti program greatly improved the chronic pain I've had for a long period of my life and I would recommend to all my friends and family to try their exercises!

My hip was in pain where I could not run like normal for exercise nor walk long distances. Dr. Matthys Airrosti and the team helped me to relieve super tight pressure points. Now, I had to do the work they assigned with home physical Therapy moves to achieve maximum results. I could see it was really working so we moved on to other areas like hamstrings, upper back, etc. Not only can I run again, but I also have more flexibility and strength to move more freely for daily living activities. Feeling great! Forever grateful!

I am so happy with Airrosti. I heard of them through work and I'm so glad to go. I've had pain in the right hip on and off for years. The pain started traveling and it got to the point where I couldn't sleep. Dr. Wu worked really hard at getting the kinks out and it gave me relief and mobility. The at-home exercises are simple to do, and if there was one I didn't like or found difficult, they offer several variations. It's nice to find pain relief without popping pain killers. It's freeing.

I’ve been dealing with a hip injury for the past three years. Sleepless nights and limited activities due to pain were my everyday experience. Over the years I visited two orthopedic doctors and received a steroid injection with no results. Dr. Amy Nguyen was extremely knowledgeable. She listened carefully to my issue and was able to isolate and manipulate pressure points to help release knots of tension and alleviate the majority of my pain in just three visits. I now have improved my range of motion and no longer dread the everyday activities many of us take for granted. I’m very grateful for her attention to detail and skills. Thank you soo much. Dr.Nguyen

I've had an ongoing issue with my piriformis for 18+ months now, which has caused a dull pain most of the time (accentuated when driving/sitting in an airline seat/sitting at my desk for long periods of time). I've tried lots of stretching and various medication to find a solution, without success. I've had five sessions with Dr. Morgan and have noticed a significant improvement. Still have some work to do as far as rehab is concerned, but this is the first time for a long time when I have felt that things are getting much better. Thanks, Heather and Courtney!!

I have now come back to Airrosti for treatment for 3 different injuries. Each time I am treated with extreme care as Dr. Hilton talked me through my injury and how we can work together to heal it. Every time I leave the office I feel better and have hope that the injury will come to an end. He's healed my back, my ankle, and now my hip. I'm a very active person, so being out for an injury is the last thing I want to do. He is flexible with scheduling and allows me to even come in twice a week while in the healing process to get worked on. I am proud to say that Airrosti has healed me and cared for me through all 3 injuries! Here's to hoping they don't have to work on me again!
